The Brewer’s Apprentice
JoEllen and her sisters opened the Brewer’s Apprentice in 1996, around the time I started working in Manalapan. My friend Marty Horowitz and I were early customers, and while we no longer brew Jo-Ellen has done a marvelous job of making this a premier business and a mecca for anyone who wants to know anything about beer and the art of brewing.
Sad update: The Brewer’s couldn’t compete with the many craft breweries that have sprung up in NJ over the last couple of years, and is no longer in business.
Treadwell Park
I’ve never been to Treadwell Park, but I just discovered its existence, and it’s on my list for a visit in the near future. It seems appropriate to mention it on this page.
Young’s London Stout
It’s not just the beer, it’s the glass. I’ve been able to have a pint in the Spread Eagle in Camden Town on each of my last three visits to London with Penny & Kevin, and it’s been a sublime experience each time.
